The older I've gotten the more I've wanted to simplify. In the wardrobe department this has been especially true the past few years. I'm drawn more and more to classic staples that I can wear for years to come. I'd rather spend a little more on an item I know I'll wear for years and get good use out of rather than a purchase I'll regret a year down the road.
Some of my favorite women to look for inspiration in the classic wardrobe department include; Jackie Kennedy, Kate Middleton, Reese Witherspoon and Carolyn Bessette. All four of these women have a timeless sense to the way they dress(ed), yet still maintain their own personal look. The thought that some of these pictures were taken more than 10, 20+ years ago is evidence of how timeless their style is.
Theirs something about a dress that I just love. I feel much more lady like when I wear them as cliche as that may sound. A fit and flare dress, just like the one Jackie is wearing in this picture is by far my favorite style of dress. These dresses smooth out a woman's figure so beautifully {please tell me I'm not the only one who knows what I'm talking about} and are so comfy. It helps that they don't require any abdominal work on my part ;).
The boots... oh the boots, this picture makes me realize that this whole riding boot thing isn't a trend. The simple mixing of black, cream and brown in this picture is lovely. I know many people think you can't mix black and brown but it's one of my favorite combos.
Kate's wardrobe seems to always contain lots of tone on tone combinations. This lady could do no wrong in my book, her hair is always classically styled {lucky for her, she has no horrible hair stages} and she looks effortlessly put together.
Reese' is one of those gals that can somehow make a trend look classic. I love the whole chunky necklace thing she has going in this picture. I've yet to find many necklaces I find comfy enough to wear all day, let alone the big chunky ones that I find so charming.
I'd love to hear some of your favorite classic style icons. Please don't hesitate to share!
